  • 10 Tips for Writing a Bestselling Book

One of my book mentors says, “What would you rather have, a bestselling book, or a best-earning book?” I kinda like that second one, don’t you?

As a company, we’ve published over 55 Amazon bestsellers, and even better than that, we’ve built a community that has our back when it comes to book sales. I think the real question is how do we write a book that not only hits the Amazon charts but continues to be recommended and purchased well into the future?

Is there a perfect writing style for your book?

When publishing a bestseller, the key is knowing and writing for your ideal reader. Your superfan loves everything you write and buys every book. But do you even know who that is? Do you know what they like to read? Do you know if they read eBooks or paperbacks?

Tip #1: Research your readers

Do your ideal client and reader homework. Get to know them. You’ll find an entire masterclass workbook for this purpose in the Brave Healer Resrouces Vault. Don’t forget this step.

Once you understand your reader, then it’s about writing a great book.

Tips for Improving Your Writing Style

Tip #2: Write a great book

Great writers are always improving, learning, and growing as a writer. If you want some pro tips, come on over to the Resources Vault. Another great idea is to join a writing group. You’ll find The Brave Healer Writer’s Circle. Writers groups will help hold you accountable to your practice and accelerate your learning.

Tip #3: Hire professionals

Ensure you have professional editors and proofreaders who help your book shine. This is crucial for your book to stand out among the traditionally published books. Don’t compromise here.

Tip #4: Create a mission statement

When you improve your writing, you’re also improving your reason and purpose for it. Consider writing a mini mission statement that describes the why behind the book. What’s the energy and intention behind your writing? Follow that, and your readers won’t be able to put your book down. They will also recommend it to their friends.

Understand your publishing options

Not all book publishing companies are alike. Research your options.

Tip #5: Compare publishing companies

A great publisher will help you achieve bestseller status. But what does it mean to have a great publisher by your side? At Brave Healer Productions, we think that means understanding the healing journey that writing and publishing a book is. It means coaching the author through the process, communicating everything clearly, and bringing a powerful awareness practice to the table when there are problems. A great publisher will have your back come launch day but also well beyond the launch in terms of business building and book sales. Look for the answer to “Now what?” after a launch. A great publisher has the answers to that question.

Tip #6: Build a launch team

If your publisher isn’t coaching you in the process of building a launch team for your book, then you’ll miss out on an incredible opportunity, not only to launch a bestseller but to build a community that will support you beyond the launch. Make sure you grab the Brave Healer Book Launch Playbook in the Resources Vault for a play-by-play of how to build a spectacular book launch team!

Tip #7: Design a great book cover

Your publisher should be guiding you on book design, both cover and interior, and covers are something that sells books. This gets back to Tip #1—know your readers. What catches your ideal reader’s eye when it comes to a book cover? Know the answer to that, and you’ll have one clue to a bestseller.

What Makes a Book a Bestseller?

Many of the tips above will help you create a bestselling book and become a bestselling author. On Amazon, a book must reach the  top 100 in a category to become a bestselling book. There are helpful programs and apps out there to assist in choosing categories.

Tip #8: Purchase Publisher Rocket

I wish I were an affiliate, seriously. Publisher Rocket will make your life easy when it comes to choosing keywords and categories that help your book reach bestseller status.

Tip #9: Pick great keywords and categories

This is a business tip as well as a book-launching tip. Keywords help your readers find your book. Understanding what your ideal readers are typing into Amazon or Google when they look for solutions to problems is key to them finding your book. Doing keyword research is smart and effective. You can choose seven keywords and ten categories when you upload a book to Amazon’s publishing service (Kindle Direct Publishing). Choose wisely!

Tip #10: Know your why

The more you live inside your why and passion for what you’re writing, the more books you’ll sell. People will often coach you through the technical steps for creating a bestseller, but not often will they help you get the clarity you need on your writing, your why, and the business behind your book that you need to not only publish a bestseller but publish a best-earning book that helps you leave your legacy in the world. Take some time and sit with your purpose and  why for writing. Do some journaling and connect with the feeling of those brave words and how you want your readers to feel. Make sure things align. Feel that joy and excitement. And then go talk to people with that energy driving those conversations, and watch the magic happen.
