  • 5 Lessons I’ve Learned in Stepping-up in My Purpose-Driven Healing Business, a Guest Post by Raelin Saindon

Your purpose and mission is to “go forth and heal the world”…now what?  How do you get past the self-doubt, the questioning; the details-‘schme-tails’ of it all and just begin what it is that you know you’re created to do and be? I can tell you how that has played out for me and what I have come to learn about myself in stepping-up in a purpose-driven way.

I have always known that there are unique aspects about me that seem to attract the life-stories, emotions and overall sensations of what people are going through around me.  Since childhood I have been on the listening and observing end of strangers, family members and friends sharing quite personal and detailed information with me without a thought of self-reflection from them. They seemed to believe this to be something very natural and even expected of me; even down to off-loading their emotional and physical symptoms onto me as well. They held their expectations around it, and because of that I came to believe it was the natural way of things for everyone.

In my late 30’s I really awakened to the realization that receiving the stories, emotions, feelings and sensations of others (as their own), were not everyone’s normal experiences and the words Empath, Highly Sensitive Person, Energy-absorbing and Healer were introduced to me as descriptions of the life I had always lead. I had finally received clarity around so many of my interactions with others and in environments where I had once been confused, overstimulated and drained. I took the opportunity to research, educate and certify myself in various healing-energy modalities. I learned that I was a Healer; but I had no idea what that meant, or what to do with it.

Each of us are ‘healers,’ really. We alone are the only ones that can truly heal ourselves; those called Healer simply hold the space and environment in order for us to realize what we need to heal and the work for us to do around that. Okay, back to the lessons.

In my own healing journey, and stepping-up as a Healing Guide, I have come to embrace these steps as my process in stepping-up and into the purpose that drives me in my healing business.

  1. Heal, heal, heal. First and foremost, a foundation of self-healing is absolutely critical to being of any service to others, stepping-up and showing-up in my business. If I am not “walking the walk,” and attending to my own areas of self-doubt, fear, blocks, or whatever else needs my self-reflective attention; you can be sure that any attempt of me holding space for another, no matter how great I am working with my processes and modalities, without falling apart or burning-out will hit a wall with certainty. It is my first and primary job to see that my own healing is happening consistently and with priority.
  2. Get clarity on who you are, and what your lane is. I can spot other Empaths, Lightworkers, Healers, HSP’s; you name it, all day long. Most of the time it’s before they even know it themselves. I know with a powerful knowing that is only explained as being “Spirit-revealed,” the inner-most areas of an individual; what they have been through, what they struggle with and areas they most need healing, attention and to speak truth to. I help them recognize this within themselves and for those that may already know and understand this about themselves; I help them to step into their own abilities and empower them to share those with others.I am a “Healer’s Coach” if you will. This has taken me decades to admit who I am and my purpose that drives me. If you have questions surrounding everything I have shared here; I know I can help you. If you are searching for website design, accounting practices, or a leaky faucet; I can refer you to others. See where I am going with this? Get clear on you, your message and your area of service; you will save yourself headache and struggle, and your clients will find you.
  3. Acknowledge your fear and take action anyway. Boy this one is a biggie! Has been for me; and with each level that I rise, it continues to show its face. The cool thing though is that fear is not real. It is not what is happening to me, is not the commentary on who I am, nor is it the final word on how I show-up, step-up and serve; unless I let it be. Read that again and again and more, if you must; until you really embrace that truth.I have this voice; it sounds a lot like that of my mentor and writing coach that says, “your fear is boring.” It’s true. The way to combat the nerves, the doubting, the questioning? Simply take the appropriate action in front of you. You want to begin to step-up and have a business serving others with their healing? Share that you are available. Let your friends and family know. Post it on your social media pages. Set up a trade name, LLC, get business cards; whatever that looks like for you, but DO. IT.  Taking action alleviates the level of anxiety you are feeling and interpreting as fear, nerves or doubt; step-up.
  4. Coaches need Coaches. Surround yourself with others that are already doing, (and are doing it well and with integrity), what it is that you have determined is your purposeful-drive, and use that as inspiration. Watch what they do, ask questions, learn from them and emulate the steps. See what works with and for you. Use their example as research for you, and if you are in a position to, ask if they will mentor you or hire someone that resonates with and aligns with you.Align with others that hold similar values and levels of integrity, passion, outlook and philosophy as you or that you wish to develop and learn from them. I am reminded of Napoleon Hill as his approach in formalizing the writing of his experiences in “Think and Grow Rich”; though his task was asked of him for a potential job, he shadowed successful business-minded individuals and did what they did. As a result, he became successful and rich as well. Look to those doing what you desire to do and learn from them.
  5. Practice, practice, practice. We learn, grow and develop just as toddlers and children do; by practicing and honing our skills constantly and consistently.  Research says that muscle-memory of anything reaches mastery levels after a minimum of 10,000 repetitions. Michael Jordan speaks often of his skills excelling because of his consistent practice of shooting baskets from all angles, distances and court-positions; without end. Fall? Get up. Have a discovery call with a client that you believe you nailed and they don’t take advantage of your offer, course, session, coaching package, product? Okay. Speak to the next person waiting. Do you always buy something each time you go to a store, or in your Amazon-research?If you are like me, (admit it, it’s ok, I don’t judge), your “shopping cart” is perpetually holding things you “remembered” for next time, or are “saving for later.” So we step-up and speak with confidence, power and conviction of our services and their much-needed benefits for those listening; and they agree and still don’t partake. Do you quit in defeat and question the quality of who you are and what you are here to do?  You don’t have to answer that out loud to me, I know already; I have been there.  Just two-weeks ago; ask that cool writing coach I just told you about. Melt-down city. She gave me a big dose of reality and encouragement and here I am writing this to encourage you. We don’t know what people are facing and where their level of understanding and readiness is; and that is not ours to determine. Get back out there; your message, your mission, your purpose-driven longing is exactly what someone else is waiting for.

I’ve come to realize that in stepping into my purpose-driven healing business, that I have discovered new levels of strength, determination, ability and resolve that I hadn’t believed lived within me until now. I’ve met new versions of myself, healed deeper layers, and celebrated many small and some huge victories along the way. I don’t yet know how all of this will look, and how “successful” this will be; but I know that nothing I have experienced to this point would have happened if I hadn’t stepped-up. I like this space I’m in, and I’m going to continue taking the steps in front of me every day; so you can watch me and do it too.
