Connected

In my post, A Gift From Sri Lanka, I talked about making a new friend and how, through Facebook, I ended up with a connection I would have never had otherwise.  I could go into the many negatives about Facebook, but today I am going to choose, again, to talk about the positives.  I think one of the problems we have in this world is that we give the negative too much of our precious energy in the form of worry and anxiety.  If we would only spend the same amount of time thinking about and being grateful for all the amazing things in our lives, the world would change, for us and those around us.

Just last week I received my first fan-email about Living, Healing and Taekwondo, from a woman in Australia!  She found my book when she searched for taekwondo books.  She wrote a lovely email about how it felt like I was speaking directly to her in the pages of my book and thanked me for writing it.  Yet another gift to me coming from our current world’s technology and ability to connect through this amazing internet.

I sat for a long time after reading and re-reading that email and smiled.  I thought about Deb, the newest reader of my book, sitting in her home literally across the world from me, and connecting through my stories.  I felt more glad that I wrote them.  That I was brave enough to have a voice.  Her email made it more okay for me to do this, it gave me more inspiration.  I felt connected, in some crazy, wonderful way, to all people.

Thanks Deb.

We are all connected to each other.  Some days you get stronger hints of this than other days.  The way we live and speak and love each other matters.  A very good taekwondo teacher friend of mine lines up her class and waits for the couple of kids who haven’t quite figured out that “feet together” means that your feet are together, with the toes touching.  She waits.  And then she says, “It matters folks!”  It does matter.  Your actions and words show the world who you are.

In the way of connecting with others, it also matters that we make the first move occasionally.  Say, “I’m sorry,” express our view or idea, ask for what we want, write the book.  Brene Brown says that we are on the planet to connect with other people.  A lot of people are afraid to connect, to be vulnerable.  And they might miss out on the greatest treasures by giving in to this fear.

Being in this body, on this earth, with these people is the greatest adventure.  I have discovered my inner warrior and she looks good on that horse!  I look forward to connecting with more of you and enjoying this amazing journey together.
