I have been practicing physical therapy for about 18 years now. After I graduated I had the pleasure of exploring the world of continuing education and tried to choose courses I thought would help me help people. Thanks to one of my very first mentors I was exposed to a few different treatment approaches that were, and probably still are, considered alternative. One is craniosacral therapy and the other is myofascial release. People are starting to wake up a little more and are taking charge of their own health and healing. They are seeking out alternatives that are holistic and effective and those that integrate mind, body and spirit. They are choosing avenues of healing that help, no matter if they are considered alternative or not, and they are willing to dive deeper into themselves for transformation and healing. They are tired of a medical system that separates mind, body and spirit, and they are tired of health care providers that are checked out and uncaring. This is exciting! It means that there is a shift happening. Another way to think about healing.
The craniosacral and myofascial release courses that I have taken have become the backbone of the approach I take with my clients because of the reasons above, and because by taking them, I have experienced my own transformation and healing. I use the techniques because they work, and because of the way they leave me feeling whole and more of my true self after a session.
I decided to write about this in my book, Living, Healing and Taekwondo. I wanted to give people an idea of what healing has meant to me, and that it included the very things that I teach my clients.
