Jump With Me in 2015!

This is the year, I can feel it. I will jump out of my comfort zone and take action to make my dreams come true and heal the world. 2015 is going to be outstanding. Now if I can just find my Just-Do-It pill and shut down that voice in my head that keeps convincing me I am not good enough. If I could make the magic “Just-Do-It” pill, and get people to actually do it, instead of just sit around and listen to companies like Nike tell them they should just do it, then I would be a billionaire.

What takes someone from inside their noisy head to moving their ass and taking action? It is what makes all the difference in your life, if where you are is not where you dream to be. “Massive amounts of action trump planning every single time,” Callan Rush. Yes. Action. I have been a goal setter, organizer, type-A planner, all my life. I am so good at making lists and objective goals it would have you blurry-eyed at the sheer wonder of it.

The other thing I have always been uber good at is jumping with two feet without thinking too hard. This has caught me some flack from those who stand at the edge looking over, wishing they could jump but seeing too many risks. They like to tell me why I shouldn’t do it. I catch the flack but when I look over in the general direction of it, I don’t see much happening over there. Actually I see a whole lot not happening over there, and worse, I see frowny faces. I am at a point in my life where I will risk being true to the feeling inside of me over the feeling of fitting in. I am ready to break a few rules. The truth is that standing at the edge, frowning, watching everyone else jump just simply isn’t fun.

What gets me to jump? After I get over the fear of “what if” this or that will happen, the act of jumping isn’t difficult. Once I hear my fear voice (I call her Martha, and she is like three years old), and recognize her habitual attempt at thwarting my actions to help me survive, I can make the choice to jump. “Your Fear Is Boring.” Elizabeth Gilbert. It so is Elizabeth. Old and boring.

I almost had that tattooed on my arm this year, it resonated so deeply. Yep. Boring. That old, conditioned reaction to life, the way that voice gets inside me and sabotages my dreams and desires to heal the world, that voice is boring, and I don’t have to listen to her anymore. Let me correct that. I have to listen, but I can listen and still jump.

The Just-Do-It pill is a pill that moves you through fear, recognizing the feeling inside as just another feeling, and allows you to do what you need to do to follow your dreams. It battles the thoughts of dread, doubt, negativity, shame, and unworthiness and keeps you focused on your intention to express your magnificence to the world. Nice, huh?

Problem is, all the attempts at the Just-Do-It pill that have already been made, the anti-depressants and sleep aids, and pain relievers. The alcohol, and drugs. The exercise induced endorphins. They all numb you up in their attempts at getting you to overcome your fears and pain. When you are numb, you can’t feel the joy, motivation and inspiration that comes to move you.

If you want to jump bad enough you will find a way, without a pill. Your Just-Do-It inspiration might come in the form of therapy, a coach, a friend to brainstorm with, or an inspiring book. In any form, when the time comes, and your fear voice gets on her megaphone and tries to deafen you to your deep yearning to jump, you must shut her the Hell up and jump. You already took the pill. It’s just that the voice is overpowering it. Figure out a way to quiet the voice and listen to the other one that sits quietly waiting for her turn.

It’s her turn. It’s your turn to jump. And if you do not know how to jump, or in which direction, or with what type of technique, well then, get help from an expert jumper. ASK FOR HELP! You are not alone in this great big beautiful world. People are waiting for you to jump. They want what you have to offer. Find someone who has jumped and ask for help, get ideas, hold hands and jump together!

The other day I scrolled to a picture my friend had posted of her skydiving adventure. She stood at the edge of the plane with a look of bliss on her face. Not terror. Bliss. And behind her, strapped to her back, was her expert. He was going to jump with her, keep her safe, make her brave. She had to start with the dream and the desire. She had to make the decision to jump and then take herself to the edge. But she didn’t have to jump alone.

I imagine the feeling inside as they move the muscles in their legs and make the jump. My stomach is in my heart and I am at the point of no return. You took my hand and we moved through the fear. There was nothing there but sky. And we were soaring, together.
