I actually said that about Descript, a new video editing tool I love that saved me so much time I was super gung-ho enough to do a free workshop for my author friends who wanted to learn how to use it.

That’s how I want to feel about all my affiliate partners. Affiliate income is amazing. But when you partner with the right people who are invested in the bigger collaborative energy, small miracles can happen in your business.
Affiliate partners create a ripple of positivity and world-changing badassery!
Why be an affiliate partner?
~You’re already sharing what they do organically
~You’d love some extra income for those sales
~You love and trust that person and their service and want to help them grow
When I’m organically selling what my friends have because it’s badass, it’s a no-brainer to be an affiliate partner with them. And when I put systems into place that share those affiliate links on a regular basis, it’s a form of passive income I love to receive. Who wouldn’t?
Affiliate income can be passive or active
Affiliate income isn’t all passive when you’re taking the time to shout out your partners in networking conversations, follow up with emails, or share content that helps get eyes on them. But I love doing that, too! It helps my partners and brings me extra income I’m proud to receive. I trust my partners will deliver the experience I know will change lives. I just want to be a part of that good juju.
The passive income happens when you create systems for promotion and marketing that are out there working by themselves automatically, like an area on your website showcasing your partners. This is currently in the works on ours. It can also be regularly scheduled shout-outs on social media, email newsletters, or anywhere else you’re getting eyes on what’s going on in your business.
What does affiliate partnership look like?
I have several affiliate partners. These are people (or companies) who have a program or service I love (and participated in) that has changed my world in some way. The affiliate relationship starts when you make an agreement with that person to receive a certain amount of income for every sale you make of their program (or every paid referral you send).
In the case of Descript, I had to search their website for this information, which I eventually found. Descript has an application process to become an affiliate. They don’t accept everyone.
Affiliate programs can be casual (based on the person’s word and a clear trail of introduction to the client) or more formal (a link you sign up with where you’re assigned a special affiliate link that you share with your audiences that tracks your sales). Either way, it can be a powerful way to build your business, make extra income, and network with powerful people.
Referral Partnerships
Sometimes, referral partners create arrangements for their programs and services that are percentage-based for anyone who refers. Like my friend and ghostwriter, Kent Sanders. I introduced someone who signed up for his services and received a wonderful, unexpected percentage of the service fee for the referral. Believe me, I’m going to make Kent one of my regular “partners” by sharing his services more often.
Creating and implementing referral income programs is also amazing money flow energy and helps you curate the energetic environment that attracts more money! “Money problems are a circulation problem,” says one of my mentors and affiliate partners, Honorée Corder. So sharing a percentage of your fee with the beautiful people who refer to you keeps the flow going!

“What amount of your income comes from passive sources or affiliate partners?”
Simon Severino of Strategy Sprints said that in our 200K club meeting the other day and I was like, uhm, I don’t know.
I realized I had some work to do.
If I could put a strategy in place, even with my top five referral partners, for affiliate income or relationships, I would be able to answer that question. And what if that amount covered part (or half, or all) of my living expenses?!
Whoa, okay, now I’m excited.
When I considered the possibilities, I thought again about the people, programs, and services I already shout out on a regular basis because I love them. Why not put a system into place where those shout outs are happening more regularly and where I can begin to measure those numbers?
My entrepreneur friends who’ve already adopted these practices and know how they work are reading this thinking, duh, Laura, why didn’t you figure this out before now?
I guess we’re all meant to “get” things in divine timing. I hope you’re inspired to take this a step further for your own life and business.
