Inspired Desire; the Language of Your Soul

Desire is a body-connected language expressed when your soul begins to let you know, from a place aligned with purpose, calling and mission, what you need to survive and thrive. That’s a language worth learning, and you can learn that language in three easy steps.

When I was young I learned a few things about my desires; that I can’t always have what I want, that they aren’t always right or appropriate, that if I talk about them too much I’ll annoy other people who might otherwise help me get what I want, and that my desires are always going to be gifted to me by someone else.

None of these rules I learned are true. And none of them empower me to feel, express or go after what I truly want, which is exactly what has to happen to align with the energy and receive those very gifts.

Over time I learned about my own worth, and that my desires were a language spoken by my unique soul. I learned I could speak the language of soul by listening to my body, my intuition and the inner voice that inspired me to think, believe and act on my biggest dreams. I learned I was worthy of everything and anything I truly desired that felt aligned with my purpose.

I learned my biggest purpose was to feel joy, and that that was enough.

It may have taken a decade (or two) to understand that desires aligned with something as simple as joy were worthy pursuits. Just as worthy as fame, fortune, success, financial wealth, and achievement.

It may have taken a bit more time to realize all of those things would come too, if I’d just go for the joy and give myself permission to be and do what brings me more of it.

Here are three simple steps to learning the language of your soul’s desire:

  1. Feel everything. Know what feels good to you; really good, not just meh. Know the difference between sort of good and really good. Create room for the practice of feeling and reflecting. Learn about yourself. Use a journal. Feeling is healing.
  2. Express your desires. Think, believe, say and do what feels good. Give yourself permission to be your wild, inspired, passionate, enthusiastic, sexy goddess self, every day. Make this a practice; learning how to feed your soul.
  3. Move toward the joy. Take daily action in they way you move into the world toward joy and what feels good. Express it, and then take the next best action step to help you move toward it. Make the phone call. Set up the meeting. Research the project. Make the connection. Be brave and do what you know you love.

This seems so simple and life feels so complicated sometimes. Joy doesn’t pay the bills. Joy doesn’t relieve the pain. Joy doesn’t send the kids to college.

Right?

When your conditioned thoughts, beliefs and inner critic voice pipes up this time I need you to try something different. Question it all.

“Conscious thought directs energy. Energy is what helps you manifest what you want.”

You’re going to have to start to practice awareness at another level to begin to break up your habitual limiting beliefs. You’ll have to go at your life aware, awake, curious and ready to feel your own resistance. You’ll need to take a flashlight and point it deep into the crevices of your mind where the thoughts that hold you back live, multiply and infect possibility.

Who taught you what you believe? How do you know it’s true? Who told you you can’t have what you want? Who said you weren’t good enough? Who are you letting be in control of the life you truly want to live?

It’s time to take your power and your life back. And it starts with understanding what you want, and knowing you’re worth those desires.

So what do you really want for the life you have left to live? How do you want to feel? How do you want to serve? What were you born for?

Connect with the feeling of each of these desires inside of you. Where do they live in your body? How do they feel inside you?

Now would be a great time to grab your notebook and pen and journal some ideas. Give yourself a place to express your desires, to celebrate them, encourage them, read about them, and develop them. What desires feel inspired? What feelings are connected to your soul? Why?

I grew up believing there was a certain chain of events and achievements that made up a “right” life. I started checking each thing off the list until I was so miserable and exhausted I wondered why and started asking big questions. That was when things began to change.

So if you’re in the middle of a life you were supposed to live, one you learned was supposed to make you happy, and you’re not, it’s time to take a step back, take a deep breath, and start connecting with what you truly desire. Your soul is always speaking to you. It just may be that you never learned that language.
