Bodyworks Tries Bowenwork Part 1

Bowenwork:  A gentle and effective manual therapy that balances tension patterns in the body, resulting in a state of deep relaxation.

I was sitting at a continuing education class last Fall listening to my colleagues introduce themselves, “Hi I am Jim.  I am a personal trainer,”  “Hi I am Susan, a massage therapist,”  “Hi I am Bob, a chiropractor.  And then the next woman said, “Hey I am Kate, and I am a Bowenworker.”

A what?  I think, maybe, I had heard of this once upon a time in one of my more alternative classes, but really, I had no clue what it was, and having been a healer and bodyworker for over 20 years, not knowing what a particular new exercise fad or the latest healing modality was… well, I, as usual, immediately wanted to get me some Bowenwork.

There are so many health and healing resources available to us, how do we pick?  How do we know where to start, what will be the best avenue for our mind body spirit, and if it will help us or hurt us?

Over the years I have tried almost everything, so I decided to start a little series of blogs to help you with your health and healing journey.  Now remember, I am slightly biased.  I have my favorites, modalities I use in my own practice, and the ones I use to keep my own athlete body performing at it’s peak.

But one thing I keep coming around to year after year, when somehow I come across something I have never heard of, is that there is something good in everything we try.  Whether we try it once and decide it is a no, or stick with it and make it a lifestyle, we will never know until we try.  Making a decision that something is not right for us is still making a decision, still paving the path.   So I take the nuggets from each and develop the path that is right for me, and what I think will help my clients pave their own healing path.

So I would like to start a conversation, about Bowenwork, and acupuncture, Thai massage, Tae Kwon Do, John F. Barnes Myofascial Release, NeuroKinetic Therapy, Hot Yoga, Gyrotonics and Reiki, for starters.  Those are only a few of the ones I have tried already.  I have a list of “Haven’t tried yet,” and those are the ones I am most excited about.

So if you would like your practice and/or healing modality or exercise class or technique to be featured in the next “Bodyworks Tries”… let me know.  Make sure you share this with someone who wants to get the word out about their practice!

Or if you have been wanting to try something but are unsure, and you want me to go first, shoot me an email at bodyworkspt@comcast.net   Maybe by shedding some light on one of these options, I can help you decide if it is right for you or motivate you to try it yourself!

Stay tuned for Bodyworks Tries Bowenwork Part 2 where I will actually tell you about my experience with the healing power of Bowenwork.
