If You Have A Body, You Are An Athlete

If you have a body then you are an athlete.  I think it was one of my movement mentors that said that the other day in our online forum.  “Yes!” I thought to myself, and how will I inspire people to feel the same, even if they excel at the couch potato competition?

One of the biggest questions you can ask yourself in life is, “What do I want?”  Big one, I know, don’t fall over or anything.  I am swaying a little myself with this one.  What do I want?  I have spent the last 46 years with, “What does everyone else need?”  Turns out, the two are not that far apart.  The second has forced me to find the first.

Deciding on what you really want is not only a huge deal, it opens up a whole new world of goals and dreams, even if what you want is to help other people.  We all know you kinda have to start with yourself, as scary as that seems.  You won’t get far with others until you have satisfied and nourished your own soul.  This need not sound or feel selfish.  A happy, fulfilled, nourished and energized soul can do a lot of good in the world.  An unhappy, exhausted, malnourished, unsatisfied soul needs some healing first.

So what does nourishing your soul have to do with discovering the athlete within that body of yours?

IT IS WHAT I WANT TO TEACH YOU.  THIS IS MY MISSION.

I want to be able to help you find her.  I call her your inner warrior.  Give her whatever picture you like, but here is what mine looks like…(photo from www.musclegoddesshaven.deviantart.com)

Impressive, huh?  She didn’t start that way.  She has spent years, decades actually, developing into the strong, confident, powerful woman in this picture.  And she is still woking on it.  I just got my wings and they need to be broken in a little.

Stating her mission is a big frickin deal.  It means claiming her healing and her power, and being able to not only express it, but use it for good in the world, to help others achieve that light bulb moment for their own powerful body and mind.

Discovering what my focused mission on this planet is, well, let’s just say that when you become truly aligned with that kind of energy, there is no stopping you, even when you mow over a few people with your pure excitement in the process.  And that is okay because the people for which you lit their bulb will just get up and shine with you, and then there will be two shining forces of inspiration to light your way!  Fun, huh?

So essentially, this note is an introduction to my mission, the focus of this blog, and the passion behind my work.  I want to use the 20 years of experience of having a body, being an athlete, learning the healing art of physical therapy and the martial art of Tae Kwon Do to serve others.  I want to help you find your own inner warrior, to realize the athlete inside of you, and to light a fire in you that burns so bright you end up lighting up another’s.  Cool mission, I know.  I can only do it if you shine with me.

So you will find that my blog posts will have this focus, so please sign up to get them! And by all means, if there is something you need help with, email me:  taekwondospirit2012@gmail.com and tell me what topics you want to hear about.  If you need in person help, including myofascial release or corrective exercise, please check out my website:  www.bodyworksptonline.com where you will now also be able to click directly into my blog.  And if you need a little warrior love, please check out www.facebook.com/warriorlove which is where my talented artist friends and I are collaborating to bring you one amazingly beautiful, inspirational art/poetry journal.

Until then…if you have a body, you are an athlete.  How will you find your inner warrior?

Please share the light and send this blog to someone you love!

I love the sounds of this! And it came at such a good time. (Inspiration tends to do that!) I’m joining a race-walking club and my first day is tomorrow! I’m so looking forward to doing this. People always tell me I walk so darn fast — so perhaps this was meant to be!

I also wanted to mention that you say you want to use the last 20 years of experience to share what you have learned, with others. I’d say it’s more than 20 years. I tend to think that the child/warrior spirit in us all is what guarantees a joie du vivre and the ability to find joy in motion!

With love.
