My Fiercely Alive Whole Self

Art by Jeanette Mac Donald.   www.jeanettemacdonaldart.com

“Writing is being able to take something whole and fiercely alive that exists inside of you in some unknowable combination of thought, feeling, physicality, and spirit, and to then store it like a genie in tense, tiny black symbols on a calm white page.” Mary Gaitskill

My Fiercely Alive Whole Self   by Laura P.

Have you ever felt

your soul catch on fire

and run through the fields with your arms

stretched to the heavens

heart ablaze?

Where the wind catches your wings

and your spirit soars

you ride the wave of the jet stream

gaining speed

spirit freed.

You dulled, drugged up

and numbed out,

do you hear the call in your ears

shaking you awake,

“feel me!”

Are you too afraid to feel

your chest shrivel up

when it faces the dragon in the dark

body balled up tight

heart aching.

Are you too tired to show up

and do what needs to be done

heavy with sadness

lingering in the dampness

of your mind.

Have you ever noticed

the nudge from behind

your knowing smile greeting the day

sparking hope

with a deep inspiration

How these yin yang waves roll in

with their rhythm

trustworthily washing us out

presenting their gifts

guided by the moon.

Can you trust

that feeling in yourself

offering a fan to the flame

soul igniting

arms outstretched again?

Where you will wait

to feel the wind

content with not knowing

knowing none the less

that you will soar.

Waking up inside

your fiercely alive whole self

to the miracles

trailblazing for joy

magnet for the biggest love.
